คณะดอมินิกัน ได้ยึดถือเป็นธรรมเนียมตั้งแต่ใน ศตวรรษที่ 13 โดยท่านบุญราศรีจอร์แดน แห่ง แซกซอนี (Blessed Jordan of Saxony) เจ้าคณะที่คนที่ 2 ซึ่งสืบทอดตำแหน่งต่อจาก นักบุญดอมินิก ให้สมาชิกทุกคนขับร้องบทเพลงนี้หลังสวดทำวัตรค่ำเพื่อสรรเสริญพระแม่ และฝากพันธกิจแห่งการเทศน์สอนใว้ในความช่วยเหลือของพระนาง
